The Beginning of the CSA: 2009

A historical dairy farm up until the 1950s, Tara Firma Farm's now rotationally grazed pasture land was purchased by Tara and Craig Smith in part with a grant from the Sonoma County Agricultural and Open Space District in 2009.  It was their belief that because the citizens of Sonoma County helped pay for our farm, they had every right to walk, hike, fish, and explore the beautiful property - a founding principle still embraced today.

Growth & Vision: 2009-2016

The CSA grew from a couple dozen local families to a few hundred throughout the Bay Area over the course of seven years!  During this time, the Tara Firma Farms Institute was founded, events like Pumpkins on Pikes became local tradition, and our vision for a sustainable, community driven CSA became a reality.

New Stewardship & Mission: 2016-Present

宝贝你下面的水儿真甜The Squire-Eldridge family purchased the farm from Tara in 2016. Since that time there has been a strong focus on holistic farming. With a background in natural, organic and GMO free food sources the Squire-Eldridge family have brought a strong focus on using farming practices that are even better for the animals, the land and the environment. Following the advice or Marin Carbon Project we farm in a way that mimics nature. This method actually removes carbon from the atmosphere. With the use of rotational grazing (or management intensive) for the animals, and creating closed loop systems that utilize food waste and locally sourced compost, the farm is at the forefront of regenerative agriculture.

What makes tara firma farms different?

In 2009, we set off on a mission to create a source of food produced with the highest integrity, that brought the community together, and that allowed our consumers full access to our farm. From our inception, we have provided education to the public with our free farm tours. Here, the community learns where their food comes from, how they can be accountable in the process, and what choosing between conventional, organic, and/or local means.  Our valued members hold us accountable by demanding the highest quality food produced in the most sustainable and ecologically sound way. Through our farm's production, and our network of family farms throughout Sonoma and Marin counties, we are able to provide pasture raised beef, pork, chicken, lamb, and turkey to families in California along with organic fruit, eggs, cheese, and vegetables.

STewards of the land

Our ranch team is responsible for the day to day vitality of the animals and property.  They start early, end late, and more often than not come home a bit muddy.  Their dedication to their work, the health and quality of our animals, and preservation of the land drives their daily work.  As a family farm, we feel it is important to celebrate and recognize our family and community that have made our dream come true.  Tara Firma Farm's wouldn't be possible without the help of all of the individuals below:


Oona - Owner/Ranch Manager

Oona is in charge of the day to day operations of the farm and helps plan events.  She enjoys making art, cooking, and tending to the gardens in her spare time, and has a beautiful two year old son (Future Farmer!)


Patrick -  Lead Ranch Hand

宝贝你下面的水儿真甜Patrick has been a part of the Tara Firma Family for over three years.  He provides a wealth of experience and knowledge on all facets of farm life and is certainly our go-to guy when faced with any problem.  In his free time, Pat enjoys eating at Rays Deli in town, and playing the latest Xbox game.

Our office team is responsible for coordinating with the ranch and partner farms, providing customer service to our CSA members, and upholding the values of our CSA program with every decision and relationship.  They work to make sure that our members are happy with their deliveries, are informed on where their food comes from, and are always looking for ways to improve!


Kris - Owner

Owner, Manager, and father, Kris has a lot on his plate here at the farm.  After years in commercial construction, running a CSA has been a refreshing change of pace.  Kris really cares about the quality of service we provide our CSA members.  In his free time, Kris enjoys riding his bike, camping, and playing with his son.



Isabel - CSA Manager

宝贝你下面的水儿真甜With a background in business management Isabel is here to help The CSA thrive. After working in the corporate world for most of her career, working on this family run farm is a dream come true. In her free time Isabel enjoys reading, doing puzzles, and drinking coffee…lots of coffee!


Brandon - Customer Service Coordinator/Marketing Support

Have a question about your CSA? Brandon is here to help. He uses his love of food, cooking, and knowledge of history to enhance our farm tours and give guests a deeper understanding of farming and the animals that live at Tara Firma Farms! 


Dominic - Packer/Inventory Controller

Dominic is in charge of packing all of our CSA orders and receiving all our meat. He ensures your orders are right and that all of our product is up to our high standards. Much of his day is spent in our deep freezer, so he has to be bundled up a lot! Dominic has lived in the Bay Area for over 20 years. In his spare time he likes to hike, fish in the summer and snowboard in the winter.
